I developed the Covid-19 Screening Test for Loss of Smell, but TikTok and Google stopped me.

“I’ve got Covid-19, and I self-quarantine”… That was the exact message I send just a few months ago to my family’s chat on Facebook. Letting them know, that for at least the next two weeks we’ll not see each other. And do you know How I recognized that I’ve got Covid-19?

I’ve lost smell

That was just a regular evening before Christmas when I finished my business at WeWork in San Mateo, California. Got into the car. And I realized that I do not smell a perfume inside (usually that’s the first thing you’ll notice in my vehicle).

Long story short. When I recovered, a great idea strikes me — to build a Symptom Screening Test for Loss of Smell. Which you can use along with other Symptom Screening tools, like a Thermometer, during public venues, in schools, airports, restaurants, hospitals, offices, and other places.

I named the product (and it was kind of a problem, you’ll learn later) “TestThatSARS”. SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. You may read more about this on Wiki.

How TestThatSARS — works

open. smell. tell. check.

What can be simple than that?

After that, tear off a special marker on the package to find out what smell was really inside.

  • Are you waiting for friends&family coming to your house? Before entering your building ask them to identify the smell.
  • Are you planning a corporate event? TestThatSARS
  • Want to protect your employees? Do screening before entering the building
The package contains 100 disposable tests with different smells

What do TikTok and Google have to do with it?

Do you remember how Trump was blocked from the major social media platforms?

Almost exactly the same happened with my Ads account. Online marketers are aware of the issue. And it looks like this:

On the left — reply from TikTok Ads. On the right — Google Ads. “URL issue” because of keywords.

As you can see — this video campaign crossed the line.

Yes, you can still cheat the system (surprise!) if you’ll use other “words” and if you’ll avoid the words like “Covid-19".

But guys, what’s the difference between a) promoting “Vaccines” from AstraZeneca and others, on every news channel across TV and Online media and b) targeting Ads for those, who are looking for an additional layer of protection?

But if a guy like me or a small company/startup will try to enter the market. Well…good luck with that.

I hope that Medium won’t block this article :D

So the question is

Who should draw the line between essential products, which will add an extra layer of protection, and those who are trying to sell counterfeit masks from China?

In the meantime, there is a lot of public researches regarding Anosmia, Loss of Smell, or Smell Blindness.

Here is the latest one:

ADD AN EXTRA LAYER OF PROTECTION

  • 1–3 sec for a test
  • 100 disposable tests
  • Contains Organic oils
  • No cheat system
